The Thames in Hertfordshire and adjacent areas

8 February:7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Talk by Professor David Bridgland, University of Durham.

Hertfordshire would seem to be the only one of the Home Counties to have been abandoned by the Thames during the Quaternary.  It was squarely on the Thames course prior to southward diversion of the river ~450,000 years ago, the result of Britain’s most extensive glaciation.  The evidence for the erstwhile Hertfordshire Thames will be pieced together during the lecture, with comparison made with neighbouring areas that have also furnished parts of the story and have supplied more recent refinements.
